In this flagship two-day class you will be guided through the process of making a beautiful and functional Carving Set, consisting of two items:
1) Carving Knife - 9" blade, perfect for all carving and slicing tasks
2) Carving Fork - 2" prongs, 7" neck, ideal for gripping, holding & serving.
Walking you the process, with each step demonstrated live by our instructor, you will learn the skills and techniques necessary to produce a stunning carving set. This completed set will prove to be the ultimate statement piece, suitable for a lifetime of use.
The agenda for each day will look like this:
Day One
- Introduction, guide to forge safety, PPE, and use of equipment
- Selection of template and handle materials
- Texturing & faceting the steel blanks
- Heat Treating (inc/ normalising, hardening, and tempering)
- Grinding the blade to a rough edge
Day Two
- Grinding the fork to a rough edge
- Sanding and finishing the blade & fork
- Handles shaping & fitting
- Glue-up of the handles
- Handle finishing, including final shaping, sanding & polishing
- Blade sharpening & testing
No prior experience is necessary.
Please note this is a non-forging class. Participants will start with laser-cut blanks and will not be using a hammer/anvil on this class.

Timings / Admin
- Each day will begin at 1000, and run until approximately 1700.
- Safety equipment is provided, but please ensure that you wear non-flammable clothing and sturdy shoes (preferably leather).
- Tea / Coffee / Biscuits will be provided. There are many local shops/cafes nearby for lunch.
- Please note, due to space and safety issues, spectators are not permitted on these courses.
