In this two day class we will forge a kitchen knife / chef's knife to a pattern of your design.

This will be a high carbon steel knife, forged on the anvil from a stock piece of steel.  This knife will be forged with a hidden tang and will be fitted with a stabilised wooden handle.  Typical blade length will be between 6 - 8", perfect for use in the kitchen as an all-rounder.

No prior experience is necessary and the class will guide you through:
  • Forge safety
  • Using a gas forge
  • Forging the blade to shape
  • Profiling the blade
  • Heat treating (incl. normalising, hardening & tempering)
  • Blade finishing, grinding and sanding
  • Selection of a suitable handle block and fitting to the blade
  • Handle glueing, shaping, and finishing
  • Blade sharpening and testing
At the end of the course you will go home with a fully finished and sharp kitchen knife that you have made yourself, suitable for a lifetime of use in the kitchen.

Depending on available stock on the day, options to upgrade the blade steel (i.e. Damascus) or handle (Colours, Bolster style etc) will be available.

Should this course be a gift, you have the option of selecting flexible dates, and having a designed and printed gift voucher sent to you via post, to give to the selected recipient. The recipient can then book on any available slot by contacting us. Gift vouchers are valid for nine months from date of purchase.
